It always amazes me when out of tragedy people can rally together and find the strength to create something great. This community appreciation day is such an example of exactly that. The Laird’s are the parents of fallen Indianapolis police officer Timothy “Jake” Laird who was killed in the line of duty in 2004. In addition to helping the town of Westfield the Laird’s have set up a memorial fund called the “Jake Laird Memorial Fund” that provides for the needs of many surrounding law enforcement agencies. They have presented the Westfield Police Department with a wonderful donation to fund this community day celebration. This awe-inspiring community day will take place on Tuesday, August 6th from 5:00-8:00 at Quaker Park (which is behind the Westfield Public Safety Building).
This event will feature free hotdogs and popcorn. And there will be plenty there for the kids to enjoy from bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, and K9 demonstrations. This is the perfect opportunity to partake in the great Westfield community camaraderie and learn more about some of the great things our police department does for our town. I think it is pertinent to teach our children about the sacrifices of others and show our respect. I hope to see all of you there!
