While summer break seems to fly by in the blink of an eye for your kids it can sometimes seem like an eternity for parents trying to find things to do for their kids. Luckily in Westfield there are a plethora of opportunities to not only keep your kids occupied but help expand their mind along the way. Let’s face it, between mindless video games, mindless television shows, and mindless internet chat there’s not a whole lot of thinking going on in the summer months. So let’s help prevent the summer brain drain with these great activities in our town.
First of all there are the Westfield Summer Opportunity and Sports Camp. There are over 75 specialized camps ranging from academic based camps, science camps, technology camps, special interest camps, sports camps, and fitness camps. Most camps are 4 or 5 half day camps and some have limited enrollment and online registration closes 14 days prior to the start of camp. For details call 867-8017.
For those getting ready to start Kindergarten, Westfield Washington Schools is offering another component to its Summer R.O.C.K.S geared for incoming kindergarten students. This is an online interactive program that is self paced and based on essential skills to help prepare students for their first year of school.
Last but not least is a program that I find so exciting and even more so that the city of Westfield and Westfield High School have teamed up for. They have created a website http://www.rockleadersvolunteer.com. This amazing site helps match potential volunteers with volunteer opportunities. This is the perfect way to help show your kids the importance of volunteering and how rewarding it can be. And remember kids learn best by example so get out there and help someone in your community and make this the best summer yet!
